Know the history of the fox terrier dog

The smooth-haired fox terrier is one of the oldest terrier dogs that exist, it was already present in England in the mid-19th century. Like other similar breeds, the smooth-haired fox terrier was a dog widely used by farmers to eliminate rat infestations and hunt foxes that threatened their animals and crops.

The fox terrier dog has a sister breed of the same name but with “wire hair”. They are not one descendant of the other, but rather it is believed that they originated at the same time, but from different crosses. In fact, for a long time they were crossing each other and were considered the same breed until the mid-80s. It was really only recently that they began to be conceived as independent breeds!

Fox Terrier Dog Temperament

The smooth-coated fox terrier is a tremendously curious and active dog, in a constant state of alert. They love to be accompanied and socialize with their human family, as well as exercise. In fact, this breed is probably one of the most demanding in terms of physical and mental stimulation.

How to care for a fox terrier dog

Caring for their hair is quite simple, regular brushing is enough to keep it in good condition. If you are a person with an allergy to dog hair, this may not be the ideal pet for you, since it tends to shed a lot.

As we said, the demand for exercise by smooth-haired fox terriers is very high. Additionally, they should not be alone for very long periods of time, as loneliness causes destructive behavior. We can't let this dog get bored! It is highly recommended to have canine toys that serve to distract and stimulate him, such as the kong.
